One of the failed sign-in windows showed a long string under a field labeled Microsoft Information Protection API. Running that value through the Entra admin portal revealed what we needed. At that point, the focus shifted to what was happening during authentication. The answer came from a closer look at the Microsoft Entra sign-in logs and a hidden dependency that I wasn’t aware of.
I am not quite sure when this started, otherwise I would have rolled back updates and/or removed recently installed apps. I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Office but it only made the issue worse. In System Configuration, if you select a check box, the related service or startup program runs when you restart the computer. If the check box is cleared, the service or startup program doesn't run when you restart the computer.

Note that you can quickly tell how your mail is currently sorted, by the presence of a small triangle on the field headers. You may notice that All, Unread , Mentioned and other sort and filtering options, such as By date, and Newest are missing in Outlook above your email list. This happens to accounts that are configured in the iOS Mail app. The loading of unregistered MAPI services has been disabled by default to make Outlook more secure. To access the calendar shared with your Microsoft 365 for business account, you'll need to accept the invitation from Outlook on the web, iOS, or Android. If you've already clicked the Accept button in Outlook 2016, you won't be able to re-accept the invitation from another Outlook application. The person who sent you the invitation will need to remove your permissions and then send a new invitation. If you typically use an Outlook.com account for email, this issue can occur if there are multiple aliases on the account and the 3rd party email address is the primary alias.
These dialog boxes often don’t allow Outlook to respond properly, so check for any open dialog boxes on your system. By installing add-ins in Microsoft Outlook, you can combine the application with extra features or functionalities that were not available by default. The navigation pane is the leftmost pane in Outlook where you'll find your folder list and the icons to move between Mail, Calendar, People, and Tasks.
Similar to our earlier suggestion of repairing Office (see #3 Repair Your Microsoft Office above), perform the same steps except choose to Uninstall. Be aware that you may need your product key if you received one. Microsoft has its own tool for automatically scanning and correcting Office when things go awry. You can read about it and then run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant to see if that helps. It can automatically diagnose issues, troubleshoot, and fix problems with Outlook. Note that the above Fix Outlook Stuck On Loading Profile link is for desktop Outlook for Windows.
If you can't open Outlook, or Outlook disappears or crashes, one of your add-ins may be to blame or you may need to update Outlook. This write-up is to help you get out of such a scene and get things back to normal as before with Outlook 2016 (and other recent versions too). Here, we have compiled a couple of workarounds or quick methods using which the whole Outlook won’t open mess will fly away. If Outlook is NOT able to start in safe mode, then try the next proposed solution below, entitled Create a new Fix Outlook Stuck On Loading Profile Outlook profile. Use the classic Outlook startup troubleshooter to diagnose and fix several common classic Outlook for Windows issues for you. Sometimes, Outlook fails to open when it can’t load your view settings in the app.
Errors in Microsoft 365 files are Fix Outlook Stuck On Loading Profile repaired automatically. To start Outlook in safe mode, click on its icon holding the Ctrl key, or enter outlook.exe /safe in the Run dialog box. You'll see a message asking you to confirm that you really want to start Outlook in Safe mode, click Yes. If you have email messages in an email program, you must import your email messages and addresses to the new user profile before you delete the old profile. If everything is working correctly, you can now delete the old profile. I have found that when this happens its due to the Account in windows needing to be updated.
Your user name is your full email address, for example Occasionally, classic Outlook tries to run a process in the background. Auto-archive, sending and receiving a very large attachment, or running some of the other mailbox tools can all be done in the background. Check the status bar at the bottom of the screen to see if another process is running. If so, wait a short time (usually two or three minutes) to see if Outlook starts working again.
